My name is Kurt Duel, and I was born and raised in Hilton, New York. My wife, Elizabeth, and I moved here to Monroe Georgia, two years ago to slow down and enjoy the luxury of good weather and southern living. I worked at Kodak for 15 years and also volunteered at the Hilton fire and ambulance department. I’ve owned two pizzeria in my day and co-owned a BBQ restaurant along with my daughter-in-law, LaToya Roberts.
My wife’s and my goal was to get our grandchildren down here and set them up for success. So when I was exploring downtown Monroe, I came across Little Italy that was closed and for sale. After speaking with my family and toying with the idea to venture into opening another pizza spot, it didn’t take much to get them on board. I spoke with the previous owner, Joe, and decided to buy this location while keeping the same great recipes that everyone has enjoyed for many years. My family moved down here in June to get the process going of opening up to the public.
We bring many years of customer service experience and also being in the food industry for over 25 years! We brought back Charles Donovan, who is a fan favorite and also managed the original Little Italy for 10 years. We’re also bringing on my son-in-law, Joe Lewis, who’s been making pizzas for over 23 years. My daughter-in-law, LaToya will be our GM as well as making our delicious new and old recipes. The community has been absolutely amazing with their support and inquiring about the new and improved space. We look forward to getting to know everyone and putting out amazing food for years to come.
